Focus:

When having a conversation, you create a bubble outside of which, for a short time, there exsists nothing but 2 egos. Sculpture should utilize this quality. It has a certain charisma. There are many types of charisma though, just look around yourself. If each successive piece of work posseses the same type of charisma, it becomes a "style".

What would the counter part of focus be?

Contrast:

Contrast is like context and concept. Just as contrast is meaningless without focus; concept without a manifested object lacks. Object without discussion of concept also lacks, but at least its tangible. A level must be reached at which concept meets/conjoins/marries form. Form is closely tied to focus. A form is an iconic manifestation of concept, but it also is integral to contrast. Heh, maybe I've been reading too much Ken Wilbur.

So what is the relationship between Focus and contrast? Contrast disappears when you loose focus. But is contrast a necessary part of focus? Empirical style focus pretends to ignore contextual concerns, so no contrest there... or is there?

Easy question. There is contrast even in science between relevance and non. Heh, I should apply that contrast to this blog. Contrast between truth and mysticism, and I guess benefit and cost. Science is the project that looks for god, yet to do so, they have to systematically eliminate him/it/whatever from the equation. Every equation. Ironic huh?

But anyway, contrast contributes towards focus. Focus needs to have contrast between at least two points of contrast, and between these minimum three points, and interstitial space is formed. There-in are relationships born and life happens.

Speaking of which, I should go get one. lol
